Sensory Curriculum

Weekly Core Word.

This week our core word is help.

I am glad we helped each other catch the snake.

We helped to clean up the mess. Great sweeping!

We helped to make the doll feel better by sticking plasters on her.

We used our communication boards.

Oaker Wood

Year 4 and 5 had a great couple of days at Oaker wood! We enjoyed lots of different activities like rafting, low ropes, monkey climb, zip line, puzzles, toasting marshmallows, playing games around the campfire and eating chicken nuggets and chips!

Y5/6 STEM Day

Year 5 and 6 had a visit from the RAF museum, where they had a go at creating their own rockets. They had to think about their design to see which one would travel the longest distance. We went on to the field to launch the rockets by pumping up pressure into their launching machine. The second activity was following instructions to make a hopper using the lego spike resources. We had a great morning!

Forest School Fires

Today Year 6 had their second Forest School session of the term. They want to have sโ€™mores at some point but we needed to develop our fire building skills first. Two groups showed great team-work, communication skills and perseverance to create flames and sustain them. It was a little windy and we now all smell smokey!

Garddio

In RVE, we have been talking about caring for our world and we have been busy planting sunflower seeds that we will work hard to take care of.

Should we care for everyone?

We believe that each person is valuable and unique. We drew an outline of a person are we thought of words that make people valuable and unique.

We listened to the song ‘You are a star’ and we discussed that music can sometimes cheer us up, especially if it shows that people care for us.

We created an extra verse to the song.

Youโ€™re too ugly, too trashy, too boring, too silly,

Everybodyโ€™s saying, everybodyโ€™s saying.

Youโ€™re too mean, too stupid, too fat, too rude.

Everybodyโ€™s saying, everybodyโ€™s saying.

But who do you listen to

Cause after all Iโ€™m telling you.

Youโ€™re star just the way you are.

Maesi “I always try to talk to people so that I understand why they are upset”

Josie “I will always help and listen”

Matty “If someone is angry they could play rock music”

Bluebell “if friends are arguing they need to solve their problems”

Corey “I will always take care of my friends if they are hurt”

Book Slam

For the first time ever, we entered the Book Slam reading competition: it is a fun reading challenge for primary school children. One group worked on 2 books; one was to be discussed with a judge in a Teams meeting, the other needed a promotional video to be made for it. They worked hard to create their video independently using different software, and the Teams discussion went well despite feeling nervous! Da iawn!

Year 6 transition activities

On Wednesday all of our Year 6 pupils visited John Beddoes Campus along with other Year 6 pupils in our cluster. In teams they completed a Break-Out activity as a way to learn about the layout of the building. They spent the afternoon with a Youth Worker playing games to develop resilience. Previous pupils from Knighton Primary supported them throughout the day, which was lovely to see. Everyone had a great time and they represented our school brilliantly! Da iawn, bawb!
