Human Rights Day

On Friday 10th December we learnt a lot about human rights and responsibilities. We found out how rights and responsibilities differ and what our rights are as children. We made people chains to celebrate how different people are in our community and around the world.

Animal Man visit

It was great to welcome back the Animal Man to Knighton. We enjoyed looking at a range of animals and learning more about Charles Darwin.

Science day

All children in year 5 and 6 engaged in science and technology activities. They made bath bombs following a BBC Good Food recipe. They planned and made packaging, thinking about what they should include on the packaging like attractive colours, designs and an ingredients list. Lucy said she enjoyed making her own products. Molly P said she liked working with other people. Freddie B said he liked measuring out and mixing to make the bath bombs. The children also looked at how different types of salt reacted in paint.

It was a very busy and productive day. We hope the children enjoyed using their products at home!

Well-being Day

What a lovely day we all had yesterday! We started the day by talking about our emotions and how these made us feel. We visualised these and gave them colours and shapes and thought about where we feel them in our bodies.

We then tried out different ways to deal with and calm ourselves down when we feel like we are losing control. The strategies we tried were: mindful colouring, listening to calming music, brain distracting games, different yoga styles and then thought about how playing a musical instrument can help us.  We had a fantastic session with Jim, who taught us all about different guitars. We managed to play ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star’ and ‘Crazy Shark’ using Boomwhack instruments which was a lot of fun! Have a look at the photos of our day.

Online Safety

Today, we had a visit from PC Viv. She taught us lots about how to keep safe online and about age limits for apps and games. We had a very informative and useful discussion. Well done to all the children for getting involved and sharing their knowledge on this topic!

Oaker Wood

What a fantastic time we all had! We were so proud of all the children, they behaved impeccably and many of them pushed their boundaries.

I wonder if you can spot who is on the monkey climb?

Cross Country

We spent the morning running round the field. This was such good fun, even the ducks decided to join in!

Debate Time!

Today we had a debate. The motion: I propose to build the space hubs to gather intel from other planets and our own.  The proposers gave a strong case for this to happen. The opposers gave a passionate speech why this should not happen. The other speakers shared their ideas and opinions and asked pressing questions. When our speaker ‘Opened to the floor’ the audience also asked some interesting questions and shared their ideas too. This was a great debate about an interesting topic.
