We have been on a minibeast hunt on the school grounds. We used our observation skills and found insects and spiders living in the grass and around our trees.

Project Afon _ River Project
Today, the Year 5s in Barcud Coch took a very wet walk to the River Teme- near the Offa’s Dyke Centre. Sarah and Toni were delivering sessions as part of the Celebrating the Teme project.
We found all sorts of creatures, so many more than we expected to! It made us think twice about throwing stones into the river…as fun as that is!

Mantle of the Expert training!
We were visited by Tim Taylor who delivers training for Mantle of the Expert, which is the pedagogical approach we use to deliver our curriculum. The staff enjoyed our session as much as the pupils.
Tim stepped into the role of someone who works in the local Welsh government, proposing to build a plot of 500 houses on the outskirts of Knighton. Pupils took on the role of an environmental protection team and they used their learning from this term to put forward their opinions and asked challenging questions.
Tim was really impressed with their contributions, concerns were raised appropriately and they were well-considered.

The story of Matthew
We looked at the Bible and we discussed the old testament and the new testament. The first book in the New Testament is the Gospel of Matthew. It is named after one of Jesusโ 12 disciples. We discussed the story of Matthew that is found in Matthew 9.9-13.
We found out that when Jesus was on Earth, he often spent time with people who were disliked or unpopular with others. Jesus believed that everyone should be allowed a chance for their lives to be changed so that they could have a fresh start. We discussed when we have been given a second chance and we we have given others second chances
