We have been very busy getting ready for our Christmas Fayre. Everyone has been working hard to start making our special crafts. One of the things we have been creating is decorated bottles.

Estimating and Measuring
We have been comparing lengths using the terms ‘shorter’ and ‘longer’. We have also estimated and measured objects using standard and non-standard units and we used JIT to create a graph showing the length in centimetres of each item.

We made playdough snakes and ordered them from ‘shortest’ to ‘longest’.
We measured our snakes using cubes. Then we made snakes of different lengths i.e snakes that were 4 cubes long.
Science investigations
Aderyn Du have carried out some air resistance science investigations as part of our Mantle work. We tested how far a piece of paper travels depending on the different shape. We discussed the different variables that affect how far it can travel. We also investigated how fast different items drop from a certain height. We found out that items that are streamline and heavier fall faster.
Digital Cluster Project
Today some of our Year 6 pupils have been busy working with their peers in the cluster. Each school has had a piece of digital equipment to use for the term; the pupils have had to plan and create a task to deliver to their peers from other schools in order to train each other. This time we had the Rugged Robots.
It was fun to use the different pieces of equipment (Sphero, drones, LEGO Spike, Cody Rockies etc) and to work with other pupils. It was especially lovely to see and work with some of our former pupils!

Young Engineers Explore Innovation at Clayton Engineering
Yesterday we stepped into the shoes of engineers and researchers during a special visit to Clayton Engineering, a leading manufacturer of specialised mechanical products.
The visit was the culmination of a classroom-based project where the children formed their own “engineering team,” investigating real-world challenges and designing imaginative solutions. The trip to Clayton Engineering offered a unique opportunity to see how professional engineers work in different industries in ‘real life’
Founded in 1973 and based in Knighton, Clayton Engineering is renowned for its expertise in corrosion protection, hydraulic systems, and specialist vehicles. The children were given a behind-the-scenes look at the factory and even witnessed a demonstration of the company’s latest launch vehicle in the car park
The visit included a presentation by engineers Adam Hardwick and Dave Andrew, who answered questions prepared by the pupils, ranging from “How do you make lifeboat launchers?” to “What materials do you use?” The children also toured the workshop, donned high-visibility vests, and learned about safety procedures in a working engineering environment. Planetarium

We enjoyed a visit from the Elan Valley Trust where they brought along their planetarium for us to find out more about the Solar System.
Kerbcraft
