Marvin Mouse Flies to the Moon

Today we each made a Marvin Mouse and flew him as far as we could using our milk bottle rocket. Here we are with the mice that we made. We launched the mice, measured how far they travelled and recorded our results.

Science - Rocket Mice / Llygod Rocket Gwyddoniaeth

We have been using our knowledge learned so far about Space to make Rocket Mice. We found out that if we ‘hit, squeeze, push’ the carton harder, then the mice will travel further because of the air from the carton. The mice fly up and then gravity brought them back down. We measured the distance using metre rulers and lego blocks. We discussed the distance travelled and compared whose mice travelled the furthest.

Problem Solving\ Datrys Problemau

We used our mathematical problem solving skills to solve a problem where we used our building skills to build houses in different ways. There always had to be two bricks (rooms) on the bottom and the same number of bricks each time.

History Detectives!

We enjoyed spending a lovely afternoon at St. Edward’s Church being ‘History Detectives’. We investigated and recorded data from the headstones and we even had the opportunity to look at some of the church records from over 300 years ago!

Mosaics

Year 2 children have been creative this week whilst working with Jody McPartlin to create our whole-school values mosaic.

Fy Nheulu / My Family

Children in Year One have been creating sentences about their families. They used their knowledge of Welsh phonics (Tric a Chlic) to read the captions to place in the correct order to ensure the sentence made sense.

Reception children have been practising their oracy and painting skills to paint their families. They all confidently named the people in their families; mam – mum, tad/dad – dad, chwaer – sister, brawd – brother.

Enillwyr Tocynnau Cymraeg

Congratulations to our Welsh badge winners this week. You have been using lots of incidental Welsh inside and outside of the classroom. Bendigedig pawb!!

Outdoor Learning

Today we played leaf snap. We collected leaves and then used our observation skills to shout snap when we saw similarities.

Eco Church Project - Investigating Lichens

Churchyards and burial grounds are very important
places for Lichens. Many burial grounds have well over
100 species of Lichen in them. In our groups we looked at how many different types we could find and where we found them.

Cardiff trip _ Trip Caerdydd

Aethon ni i Gaerdydd. Aethon ni i Big Pit, St. Fagan’s, ar y speedboat, i’r Senedd, bowlio-deg, Techniquest ac Aberfan Memorial Garden.

We learned about the history of Wales. Some of us stayed away from home for the first time. We had to organise ourselves and our belongings. We had to share a room with other people. We persevered even when something was tough or tiring. Some of us had to be brave.

Caswon ni lawer o hwyl. We had lots of fun and the behaviour of our pupils was excellent!

A huge ‘thank you’ goes to each of the following for their generous donations: the Blakemore Foundation for their contribution towards our visit to Techniquest, to the Senedd for a grant towards our travel costs and to our Friends of School committee who enabled us to enjoy the speedboat! Diolch yn fawr iawn!
