The Curiosity Channel

We have set up our own ‘YouTube’ channel called The Curiosity Channel, where viewers can write in with any of their scientific questions and we will try to create an explainer video to help them understand the answer to their question. The class have worked hard to write an introductory script, created a logo and a tune for the show. They have used Abode to put all of these elements together for our first video. Since sharing the video on our channel (on Hwb) we have been asked a question about electrical circuits. Can we help?

Helpwr Heddiw

Today we practised asking ‘What day is it?’, ‘What day was it yesterday?’ and ‘What day will it be tomorrow?’ whilst playing Pick Up Sticks!

Pa ddiwrnod yw hi heddiw? Dydd Mercher yw hi heddiw.

Pa ddiwrnod oedd hi ddoe? Dydd Llun oedd hi ddoe.

Pa ddiwrnod fydd hi yfory? Dydd Iau bydd hi yfory.

Fun Club

Children in Year 2 have been busy creating Autumn inspired artwork in Fun Club. They used a range of Autumn colours to create a background before cutting a black silhouette over the background.

Kerbcraft

Kerbcraft teaches children ages 5-7 how to be safer pedestrians by taking them onto real roads and showing them how the right decision-making and behaviour can really help them to keep safe when crossing the road.

This week the children have been choosing safe places and routes to cross the road. Rob Griffiths who coordinates the Kerbcraft scheme was really impressed by how well the children were able to recognise dangers and hazards and identify alternative crossing places.

Estimating

We have been estimating and counting a number of objects up to 100. We estimated and counted the number of wellies in the welly rack. We grouped some of our items in 2’s and 10’s to help us count accurately.

The boy who harnessed the wind

Year 2 and 3 have really ‘stepped’ in to their Mantle of the Expert commission this term where they have been commissioned to be a team of engineers and researchers.  They have found inspiration from the story ‘The boy who harnessed the wind’ which  follows the story of William who built a wind turbine using scrap materials to create electricity.  The children have been making lists of materials that they will need to complete their engineering role and thinking of interesting questions that they would like to ask William about his invention.  If you work in engineering or renewable energy sector, we would really love to hear from you.

Rhif/Numbers

Our Reception pupils have been busy counting the correct number of objects outside to match their given number. Great counting everyone. Da iawn pawb!

Forest School Finale!

We spent our last morning together in a Forest School session with Toni and Ruth. We tried new activities, which included making Kazoos and eating doughnuts cooked on an open fire. Everyone had a lovely time, it was the perfect way to chill when everyone was feeling so many different emotions.
