Community as a Superpower!

This year, the ‘Power of Community’ was the refugee Week theme. Together we are very strong, creative and make things happen.

We assembled in marquee on the field and we spilt into four mixed aged groups. Each group was responsible for making each bird; the tern, the swift, the whooper swan and the red kite.

Each child had their very own hand-held bird which they decorated.

We also created our own nest by weaving ripstop ribbons around willow.

In the afternoon, we took our individual birds on a journey ‘around the world’ through the obstacle course depicting the ice, sea, wind and even a volcano!  We thought carefully about all of the things that we noticed about our journey.

At the end of the day, we gently carried our large birds to meet each other and ‘perch’ on the Kite’s nest.  This represented the Kite offering Sanctuary to the migrants for as long as they need it.

We were very grateful to Larry and Ciara and their team of willing volunteers that enabled us to be strong, creative and to make wonderful things happen!

Forest School

Year 5 have started forest school sessions with Miss Jones. We have enjoyed den building and creating bug hotels. We used the knives safely to sharpen sticks to use as tent pegs. We are looking forward to starting fires in our sessions soon.

Oaker Wood

Year 4 and 5 had a great couple of days at Oaker wood! We enjoyed lots of different activities like rafting, low ropes, monkey climb, zip line, puzzles, toasting marshmallows, playing games around the campfire and eating chicken nuggets and chips!

Y5/6 STEM Day

Year 5 and 6 had a visit from the RAF museum, where they had a go at creating their own rockets. They had to think about their design to see which one would travel the longest distance. We went on to the field to launch the rockets by pumping up pressure into their launching machine. The second activity was following instructions to make a hopper using the lego spike resources. We had a great morning!

VE Day Anniversary Activities

We had great fun completing VE Day Lego Challenge cards. We chose who we worked with and which challenge we wanted to complete. We made celebration cakes, peace gardens, spitfires, Union Jack flags and old-fashioned radios. We have shown that we have great construction skills!

Our AMAZING World!

In RVE, we created a photo gallery showing things that we found interesting and beautiful. We zoomed in on some of the items so that we can see them in more detail.

Celf a chrefft

These are some of our entries for the Urdd Arts and Crafts Eisteddfod. We have photography, jewellery, models, paintings, drawings and puppets! Da iawn bawb a phob lŵc!

What is special about our world?

In RVE we discussed the meaning of the word ‘create’ and we became ‘creators’. We created artwork using natural resources that we felt was wonderful. We talked about our creations and how being outside makes us feel.

Arlo “I feel happy and calm”

Alba “Nature is my happy place”

Corey “I like being outdoors looking at butterflies”

Bluebell “Nature makes me feel free”

Lola “I like taking care of things and helping them to grow”

Elin “Being outside makes me feel peaceful with the birds singing and tweeting”

Mini bug hotels!

After deciding we need to increase the biodiversity on the school field, we have decided to make some mini bug hotels to place in our forest school/woodland area whilst we wait for donations to make a bigger bug hotel.
