COP30

We have been learning about the location of the next COP30 meeting. Pupils have created their own glossary to help them understand it better. We have learned about the impact this meeting and the logistics around it have had on the Amazon rainforest. Information and discussion texts have been written to try and help us make informed decisions for ourselves.

Lego Spike Essential-Rainforest Buggy

This afternoon we had great fun creating a rainforest buggy for explorer Bethan using the Lego Spike Essential from our cluster coding kit. We followed the instructions carefully to create the buggy and then we used our programming skills to change the colour of the lights. Great team Work!

Dydd Cymraeg

Today we had a great day celebrating Wales through lots of fun, Welsh activities. Reception focused on ‘Sut wyt ti?’ and Year One ‘Ble wyt ti’n byw?’ We played parachute games, decorated biscuits with feelings and houses and loved the silent disco!

Dydd Cymraeg

We decorated some biscuits showing if we were feeling hapus, drist, bendigedig or wedi blino.

Then we had lots of fun at the silent disco.

Community as a Superpower!

This year, the โ€˜Power of Communityโ€™ was the refugee Week theme. Together we are very strong, creative and make things happen.

We assembled in marquee on the field and we spilt into four mixed aged groups. Each group was responsible for making each bird; the tern, the swift, the whooper swan and the red kite.

Each child had their very own hand-held bird which they decorated.

We also created our own nest by weaving ripstop ribbons around willow.

In the afternoon, we took our individual birds on a journey โ€˜around the worldโ€™ through the obstacle course depicting the ice, sea, wind and even a volcano!  We thought carefully about all of the things that we noticed about our journey.

At the end of the day, we gently carried our large birds to meet each other and โ€˜perchโ€™ on the Kite’s nest.  This represented the Kite offering Sanctuary to the migrants for as long as they need it.

We were very grateful to Larry and Ciara and their team of willing volunteers that enabled us to be strong, creative and to make wonderful things happen!

Well-being day

For our well-being day Year 6 pupils welcomed parents into the classroom after our class assembly. They then chose to either play rounders or to do some arts & crafts outside. This was followed by a Forest School session in the afternoon. How relaxing!

Year 6 Leaversโ€™ Service

Our Year 6 pupils were invited to Brecon Cathedral to take part in the Leaversโ€™ Service for the children in the diocese. Pupils created a banner, which represented our school, to present to the Bishop. We took part in a service then enjoyed some different activities in the Cathedral in the afternoon. Roedd eโ€™n hyfryd.

Health and Well-being

Jigsaw-Relationships

We played ‘Musical Friendships’ as part of our work on being a good friend. When the music stopped we had to find a friend and do something kind. We had lots of hugs, fist bumps and high fives! It made us all feel really happy!

Maths outdoor learning

In maths, year 5 and 6 were finding the area of shapes. We went outside to collect different shaped leaves. We drew a square or rectangle inside the shape and calculated the area. We then estimated the area of the remaining part of the leaf and added them together to estimate the total area.
