Maths outdoor learning

In maths, year 5 and 6 were finding the area of shapes. We went outside to collect different shaped leaves. We drew a square or rectangle inside the shape and calculated the area. We then estimated the area of the remaining part of the leaf and added them together to estimate the total area.

Forest School

Year 5 have started forest school sessions with Miss Jones. We have enjoyed den building and creating bug hotels. We used the knives safely to sharpen sticks to use as tent pegs. We are looking forward to starting fires in our sessions soon.

Oaker Wood

Year 4 and 5 had a great couple of days at Oaker wood! We enjoyed lots of different activities like rafting, low ropes, monkey climb, zip line, puzzles, toasting marshmallows, playing games around the campfire and eating chicken nuggets and chips!

Y5/6 STEM Day

Year 5 and 6 had a visit from the RAF museum, where they had a go at creating their own rockets. They had to think about their design to see which one would travel the longest distance. We went on to the field to launch the rockets by pumping up pressure into their launching machine. The second activity was following instructions to make a hopper using the lego spike resources. We had a great morning!

Judo

Jasmine from Team Wales came into school to do some Judo with KS2. We talked about her career and the competitions she has taken part in and then we had a go at Judo ourselves. We had great fun and enjoyed learning new Judo moves.

Prepping for our class play

In Aderyn Du we have been busy practising and creating props for our class play ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.’ We can’t wait to perform it!

Buddhism – Creating Mandalas

In Aderyn Du we have been learning about the religion Buddhism and how Mandalas are a circular figure representing the universe in Buddhist Symbolism. We drew our own designs in class and went outside to create Mandalas using natural materials we could find in the school grounds.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

This term Aderyn Du have started reading and learning about the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We have enjoyed the story so far and have completed descriptive writing about Charlie Bucket’s house and we also had a go at drawing in the style of Quentin Blake. Here are some of our drawings – we were very pleased with how they turned out!

Human Rights Day

For Human Rights Day, Aderyn Du looked at a picture and discussed what Human Rights we could see. We then looked at the rights of a child and used diamond ranking to discuss what we thought was more important and least important. The children had a lot of discussion and all shared their thoughts and ideas about the different articles.
