COP30

We have been learning about the location of the next COP30 meeting. Pupils have created their own glossary to help them understand it better. We have learned about the impact this meeting and the logistics around it have had on the Amazon rainforest. Information and discussion texts have been written to try and help us make informed decisions for ourselves.

Parts of a flower

Barcud Coch spent the afternoon learning about the parts of a plant. Mrs Morris brought in some flowers to dissect and everyone was thoroughly engaged in the activity.

Well-being day

For our well-being day Year 6 pupils welcomed parents into the classroom after our class assembly. They then chose to either play rounders or to do some arts & crafts outside. This was followed by a Forest School session in the afternoon. How relaxing!

Year 6 Leavers’ Service

Our Year 6 pupils were invited to Brecon Cathedral to take part in the Leavers’ Service for the children in the diocese. Pupils created a banner, which represented our school, to present to the Bishop. We took part in a service then enjoyed some different activities in the Cathedral in the afternoon. Roedd e’n hyfryd.

Visiting the Amazon

We have been learning about the deforestation that is happening in the Amazon rainforest in preparation for the COP30 summit in November. To better understand what is going on there we quickly organised a trip considering the modes of transport required and what would be needed with us. Beforehand we considered how different groups of people might be feelings about this and then completed some ‘hot seating’ in order to have some quotes ready for our news report. We then ‘travelled’ there by plane and boat and we drew what we could see whilst in the rainforest.

Forest School Fires

Today Year 6 had their second Forest School session of the term. They want to have s’mores at some point but we needed to develop our fire building skills first. Two groups showed great team-work, communication skills and perseverance to create flames and sustain them. It was a little windy and we now all smell smokey!

Book Slam

For the first time ever, we entered the Book Slam reading competition: it is a fun reading challenge for primary school children. One group worked on 2 books; one was to be discussed with a judge in a Teams meeting, the other needed a promotional video to be made for it. They worked hard to create their video independently using different software, and the Teams discussion went well despite feeling nervous! Da iawn!

Year 6 transition activities

On Wednesday all of our Year 6 pupils visited John Beddoes Campus along with other Year 6 pupils in our cluster. In teams they completed a Break-Out activity as a way to learn about the layout of the building. They spent the afternoon with a Youth Worker playing games to develop resilience. Previous pupils from Knighton Primary supported them throughout the day, which was lovely to see. Everyone had a great time and they represented our school brilliantly! Da iawn, bawb!

Judo

Today we were visited by Judo Team Wales. We had a short assembly with Jasmine then some of us had a short session. Pupils learned some rolls, holds and were shown how to throw…one lucky pupil was used to demonstrate! There were smiles all round… hwyl a sbri!

Celf a chrefft

These are some of our entries for the Urdd Arts and Crafts Eisteddfod. We have photography, jewellery, models, paintings, drawings and puppets! Da iawn bawb a phob lŵc!
